Cryopreservation

Cryopreservation is a process where embryos or whole tissues(eggs or sperm) are preserved by cooling to very low sub-zero temperatures.

At these low temperatures, any biological activity, including the biochemical reactions that would lead to cell death, is effectively stopped. Extra embryos are frozen in liquid nitrogen, if they are produced in greater number and of reasonable quality. These can be used in a subsequent pregnancy or a failed first cycle. When required the embryos are thawed & brought to room temperature and made biologically active & transferred into the woman’s uterus to establish a pregnancy.

Sperm Freezing helps to store the sperms for long time and can be utilized whenever required. Like in absentia the insemination can be done. Before vasectomy or cancer treatments, the sperms can be stored. Before test tube baby sperms can be stored and on the day of insemination husband is not forced to produce the sample.
